The 1872 Porter from Elland Brewery, boasting a 6.5% ABV, has achieved the highest recognition by clinching the top spot in the esteemed Champion Beer of Britain competition organized by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
At this year’s Great British Beer Festival (GBBF), the 1872 Porter emerged as the clear victor after a rigorous and fiercely contested showdown. This victory adds to its impressive track record, having previously secured the title of Champion Winter Beer of Britain on four occasions, including the most recent edition.
Christine Cryne, the co-ordinator of the Champion Beer of Britain, emphasized the deserving nature of this victory despite the intense competition. She characterized the 1872 Porter as a rich ebony-hued brew with delightful notes of chocolate and caramelized fruits, accompanied by a subtle essence of black toffee on the aroma. The judges were particularly pleased with its velvety smooth texture and a finish that combines a roasted character with a dry quality. Ultimately, the porter stands out as a gratifying and exceptionally easy-to-savor beverage.
