At this year’s Nottingham Beer & Cider Festival there will be a dedicated stand for CAMRA Learn & Discover support. It will be located in the Barrel & Bean area alongside the Membership team. On every day of the festival we will offer tasting samples on different ales and ciders. The full schedule and timings are still being finalised, however we have allocated Friday 9th October to feature members of the No Half Measures Collective, Nottingham’s fabulous women in beer group.
On Monday 5th September, members of the Collective were up early (not necessarily bright!) for the trip up to Buxton Brewery. A huge thank you to Sophie Ashdown (@botanical_brewster), brewer there, who hosted us for an ace day brewing up Basic Witch, a pumpkin spiced stout. This is Sophie’s recipe, with a few developments after being brewed for the first time last year. The foundation of the beer is a traditional stout, with the addition of pumpkin spice flavours in the whirlpool for a real seasonal treat. This will be one of four beers the Collective will be pouring on the Learn and Discover bar – the aim being to showcase the modern development of innovative beers, while remaining rooted in traditional approaches.
