CAMRA have announced that Sarah Hughes Brewery’s Snowflake barley wine has won the overall Gold Champion Winter Beer of Britain at the recent Beer Festival at Burton Town Hall that took place 15th – 17th February. The annual beer festival provides an opportunity to showcase the best traditional winter brews in the country, with categories such as barley wines, strong old ales and stouts.
Whilst our congratulations go to Sarah Hughes Brewery, articles in both Nottinghamshire Live and the Derby Telegraph have highlighted the success of Richard Muir, pictured right, a passionate, self taught brewer who set up Muirhouse Brewery in Ilkeston back in 2009. Nik Antona, CAMRA National Chairman, pictured left, presented Richard with 2 Awards, Gold Winner in the Brown Ales, Red Ales, Old Ales and Strong Milds Category and Silver Winner in the Overall Category, both for the Muirhouse Magnum Mild. A dark, 4.5% beer described as rich and malty, hopefully local CAMRA members will be able to try it at The Weighbridge Inn, Muirhouse Brewery’s Tap, or find it on handpull at other local pubs in the area.
